What is a Parent Coach?

A Parent Coach has the knowledge, understanding and skills to support parents with the emotional and practical aspects parenting journey. This can include listening to what the parent is experiencing at the moment, helping them to get grounded and present, exploring how they would like things to be and discussing small steps they can take towards their aims.

Why don't parents just have standard coaching?

Traditional coaching approaches can focus on the person living their best life, or making big and dramatic changes. This is not always realistic for parents with children who experience the world differently. It can make people feel worse if they feel they cannot achieve big changes immediately.

They may also feel the common 'Law of Attraction' or 'You create your own reality' approaches make them feel worse in the short term. They may not have the standard 90 minutes to spend in a coaching session, or be able to afford the luxury price tag of many coaching programmes.

How does this approach differ?

This approach is designed to support the parent to focus on where they are right now, their feelings about their experiences, and what they can do with what they have. It focuses on healing, empowering and agreeing to achievable tasks, that are designed to work with whatever else is going on in their lives.

Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of the questions people most frequently ask us:

What do you mean by 'children who experience the world differently'?

Every child is unique and has their own way of being in the world. For some children and parents this can be more challenging for a lot of reasons. It could be a diagnosis, such as autism or ADHD, it could be a sensory difference or illness. It could be related to trauma or family experiences. We are open to exploring what this means for you and your family.

Do I have to be a parent of a child who experiences the world differently?

No you do not. You do need to show that you have some understanding of the experiences parents may have. This could be from other life or work experiences. This will be covered in the course as well.

Do I need to be a parent?

There are lots of ways of supporting children without being a parent. This could be from being a step-parent, having much younger siblings, looking after nieces or nephews. You do need to have given some thought to how parenting children with different needs affects the parent, so that you can meet the parent wherever they are at on their parenting journey. This is covered in more detail in the course.

What if I miss a session or two?

The sessions are recorded and uploaded onto the online course, which you can access in your own time.
